Consider a
Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
for all your charitable giving
A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) lets people 70½ or older donate up to $111,000 (for 2026) directly from their IRA to a charity, tax-free, counting towards their Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) without increasing taxable income. This distribution goes straight from the IRA custodian to the charity, bypassing you, and offers tax benefits even if you don't itemize deductions, lowering your adjusted gross income (AGI) and reducing Medicare premiums.
Key Features & Benefits:
Age Requirement: Must be 70½ or older.
Direct Transfer: Funds must go directly from your IRA to the charity; you can't withdraw and then donate.
Tax Exclusion: The donated amount isn't counted as taxable income.
RMD Fulfillment: Can satisfy all or part of your annual RMDs (for those 73+).
No Itemizing: You get the tax benefit without needing to itemize deductions.
Frequency: You can make as many small transactions as you choose, up to the annual limit.
Annual Limit: Up to $111,000 per person for 2026 (indexed for inflation).
IRA types: Traditional, Rollover, Inherited, SEP, or SIMPLE (other than an ongoing SEP or SIMPLE IRA)
How It Works:
Contact Your IRA Provider: Inform your IRA custodian (like Fidelity, Schwab, Credit Union etc.) that you want to make a QCD.
Specify Charity: Tell them the name and details of the qualified charity (e.g., Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church).
Direct Payment: Your IRA provider sends the funds directly to the charity.
Why Use a QCD?
Reduces Taxable Income: Lowers your AGI, potentially keeping you in a lower tax bracket.
Manages RMDs: Fulfills mandatory withdrawals, avoiding penalties.
Greater Savings: Can offer better tax savings than a standard cash donation.
Please Note: The primary benefit of a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) does NOT apply to a Roth IRA because qualified Roth IRA distributions are already tax-free.
